The selection committee seeks nominees who:
- engage audiences with information and presentation style
- lead cutting-edge research projects
- appeal to diverse groups of NIH researchers
With fewer than 40 available lecture spots for the 2010-2011 season, we ask that you please take time to prepare your nomination(s). Below you will find some suggested Do’s and Don’ts for the nomination process.
Do:
- Do get excited about your nomination! You know the nominee’s achievements and research portfolio. You are the spokesperson for this nominee.
- Do submit answers to nominee questions with succinct and engaging language. (If the answers to the nominee questions appear boring to you, they will not be exciting to the selection committee.)
- Do think about collaborating with other small groups and offices to submit a nomination. The nomination form this year offers a co-nominator option.
- Example: If you are part of a smaller scientific interest group (SIG), consider working with one or two other SIGs to submit one nomination that represents a consensus among groups. This type of effort represents a stronger nomination by showing support from a breadth of groups as opposed to just one.
- Do answer all the questions about the nominee. While this is not a requirement, these questions are designed to make your nomination stronger.
- Do submit more than one nomination if you have strong lecture candidates.
- Do choose nominations that have a broad appeal to the NIH community.
Don’t:
- Don’t copy and paste text from the nominee’s website when you complete the online nomination form.
- Don’t submit numerous weak nominations, over one to two strong submissions. Remember: Quantity does not ensure one of your nominees will be chosen.
- Don’t nominate someone who has delivered a Wednesday Afternoon Lecture in the past five years. (See list of past speakers to cross-reference your names.)
